Chiropractic is a primary health-care profession that specialises in the diagnosis, treatment and overall management of conditions that are due to problems with the joints, ligaments, tendons and nerves of the body, particularly those of the spine. When a horse injures a ligament in the middle of a round of jumping, or a dog pulls a hamstring catching the Frisbee he has caught a 1000 times before, it may not be the jumping that caused the injury, but an underlying problem that is finally showing itself. The resulting injury could signal the end of a sporting career.
Animals need chiropractic for the same reason that humans do. Animals and people can have problems with their spines not only from too much, ill-timed or inappropriate activity, but also from too little. Animals can trip, fall and stumble just as we humans do and sometimes the demands of competition, racing and showing are more than they can take.
Chiropractic aims to restore normal function to joints, muscles and nerves, and may increase control, co-ordination and strength.
