I’m Rachel Evans and I am a Bowen therapist based in the Meon Valley in Hampshire. I am qualified and experienced to treat both humans and equines, using Bowen to help with injuries, ailments or other problems they may have.
Like people, the bodies of horses and ponies are a complete system and not a number of separate parts bolted together. Therefore we treat holistically, i.e. focusing on the whole animal that we see in front of us. So although you may notice a problem or loss of function in one area, we will pay attention to what we find because a slight imbalance makes a big difference when you weight upwards of 400kg!
Like many creatures, horses are very much in touch with their bodies and give very honest and immediate feedback to what we are doing. As with the human version, the practitioner will make rolling moves over muscles, tendons and ligaments in precise areas of the body. Again, it addresses the horse’s body as a whole and helps to relieve muscle tension and spasm, stimulate the lymphatic system and is very relaxing for the horse.
