Derek was born and bred in Nottinghamshire, his career spans a total of nearly 40 years. Derek’s love of horses and horseracing first started when he was a young teenager. His father Gerald introduced him to a racehorse trainer called Eric Collingwood.
During the school holidays and weekends Derek would show his dedication for horses by working on Eric’s yard. At the young age of 16 showing Derek signed on as an apprentice jockey for in Middleham. Gerald has himself owned racehorses and said about his son he never wanted to do anything else. Derek went from strength to strength being regularly one of the top all weather trainers in the country.
Derek's team are also know for regularly winning best turned out prizes at the races. Deciding who you want to train your racehorse is a very important and big decision as big if not bigger than choosing and purchasing your horse itself. It is important you find a trainer you are comfortable with as well as your horses getting the best possible care and training and a trainer who puts your horse first wherever possible on and off the track. This all makes the thrill of owning a racehorse a real pleasure.
Individual treatment is extremely important to Derek, who is known for being successful with some wayward or difficult horses in the past. Since purchasing the yard 5 years ago, Derek and Lyndsey have worked very hard in refurbishing it and it is now home to over 50 horses with excellent facilities to ensure your horses are trainined to the highest possible standards.
The yard set in over 50 acres of land and has an idyllic setting, next to the stunning Vale of Belvoir. This tranquil setting gives options of hacking the horses to maintain their happiness and keep them interested in their work.
The yard offers a range of facillities including indoor and outdoor stables, horsewalkers, menage, lungpen 2 polly track gallops, jumping facillities and much more.
