I was born in 1967 at Drogheda in Ireland, and have three brothers. My family at that time had no connection with horse racing. My early career in Ireland centered around pony racing until I was introduced to the racing scene by Joe Byrne. Not long after this I became apprentice jockey to Noel Meade. I crossed the water to England in 1987 took out a conditional licence and worked and rode for David Elsworth for the next 13 years up to 2000. After retiring from the saddle at this time I spent the next three years working for the International Racehorse group Godolphin two of these years were spent in Dubai breaking yearlings.

In 2003, when David Loder left Godolphin to set up once again as a public trainer, I went with him as Head Lad, progressing on to Assistant Trainer. At the end of 2005 I successfully took my training modules at Newmarket, and in July 2006 became trainer for Paul Dixon at his Retford yard. I remained there for three years when in 2009 the opportunity to set up my own operation presented itself and we moved to Averham Park Racing Stables.

I have had group success with Caspar Netscher, winning the Gimcrack Stakes and Mill Reef Stakes in 2011, an achievement never accomplished before with the same horse. Later in the year I went on to contest the Breeders Cup Juvenile (Turf) at Churchill Downs for the first time. Recording a total of 63 winners in 2011, two of which were over the jumps, proved to be my most successful year to date for turning out winners. The start to 2012 has been encouraging with Fratellino continuing the yards good form by winning Hever Sprint Stakes (Class1) Listed Race at Lingfield Park, which hopefully will be the incentive for another record breaking year.

We treat our horses as individuals and pride ourselves on our "Attention to Detail". Horses have their own personalities and preferences and we aim to tailor their programmes and routines to cater for their different needs. An understanding of each horse as an individual is imperative to gaining the best results achievable.
