I am Madeline Freeman, and I am a Bowen Technique Therapist qualified to treat people, dogs and horses. The treatment of horses can be quite a complex exercise, as there are so many aspects that need to be taken into consideration.

If a horse has a sore back it would be foolhardy just to treat the back and not take into account the saddle, bridle, rugs used on the horse, foot balance, exercise and even the rider. Many of the back problems I see in horses is related to poor saddle fit, and I do encourage all horse owners to buy at least one book on saddle fitting so they can appreciate how complex and tough it can be to get it right.

Conditions that may require equine bowen therapy:

  • Sore / cold back
  • Join stiffness
  • Muscular tension
  • Unexplained lameness
  • shortening or restriction of stride
  • Resistance or lack of performance on one rein
  • Sudden change in performance or behaviour
  • Conditions of the respiratory
  • circulatory
  • digestive systems
  • Lymphangitis and leg puffiness
  • Laminitis
  • Colic
  • Post Surgery for recovery
  • Ligament and tendon injuries
  • Headshaking
